Reading + Thinking = Learning

March 29, 2011

Our 3rd graders are reading and thinking more and more each and every day! We are so proud of the wonderful thinking about reading we have noticed in our classroom. We recently welcomed Dr. O, from the University of Maryland, into our classroom to model thinking about reading; specifically paying attention to character dialogue, backstory and inner thoughts. We have continued to use his methods of thinking about our reading while discussing the character development in our read alouds. In addition, we have been using our theatrical skills to act out the rising action, climax and resolution of the stories we are reading.

In addition, while we read we have been focusing on the spelling patterns of short vowel sounds. We have begun literacy stations to enhance our reading and writing skills; such as Writing Station, Word Work Stati...
